Is it a cocktail party with a few signature drinks with a couple of the appetizers? Is the buffet with a drink station?
Is it a brunch with the friends and loved ones?
Is it an elegant dinner with festive savory dishes?
Is it traditional dinner (or maybe with a twist) with the family and friends?
Planning the party
So you’ve got the visual ✅ and it is realistic and manageable ✅ since you are planning to enjoy it too. You may choose to assign your guests dishes to bring.
Time and Place
Specify the time range clearly (2-3 hours should be plenty of time for your guests to enjoy it) and also mention the address. Make your space work for you and think of creative ways to make it cozy and not cramped. Arrange some additional seating.
Thanksgiving Guest List
Make a list and update their contact information the sooner the better, so it will give them plenty of time to respond.
Planning the menu
Think of flavors, your family traditions, some holiday classics…
Be considerate and compassionate to all your guest’s backgrounds, don’t forget some vegetarian (and maybe vegan) and allergen-friendly recipes.
Go over the recipes. Print, copy, save or pin them whichever way will be more convenient for you to and make them into a shopping list.
Now let’s do some calculations. Make sure you have enough space in your refrigerator and plenty of ice.
I personally feel that when it comes to drinks you should prepare for buy some extra.
If your friends love different drinks, it’s ok to ask them to bring your own alcohol. Make sure you have basic mixers and bar essentials.
Style The Thanksgiving Party
You can style the table with acorns, apples, leaves, branches, pumpkins, squashes and walnuts, harvest paper wraps, pumpkin or pinecone place cards, candles, cranberries, votives, ribbons.
Don’t forget to add sparkle to your decor!
Creating a nice vibe that will inspire you and set the mood for your family is also important. I found you some Thanksgiving music that everyone would love: cool and eclectic. I personally tested those playlists last Thanksgiving.
